Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART)
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is a service that translates spoken word into text. This is done by a trained captionalist who sits in the classroom and types word for word what the teacher is saying. The captionalist types into a steno-type machine that transmits into the student's laptop. The student has a laptop at their desk and is able to read the text in realtime as the teacher is speaking. A video of the teacher can be transmitted on to the laptop, so that the student can also see the instruction. The text produced by CART can be displayed on a laptop, computer, or projection screen. Any student with hearing loss or limitations would benefit greatly from this service.

Radio Amplifier
A radio amplifier is a small hearing aide device that a student with hearing impairments can wear around their ear. It amplifies the teacher's voice so that the student can hear the lesson clearly. The student can adjust the volume for better hearing. In some classrooms microphones can be installed into the ceiling so that the student can hear both the teacher and other classmates. In other cases the teacher wears a microphone on their clothes or around their neck. This is a simple high tech device that can make a huge difference in a student's education and learning.
